On my impromptu day off last week, I visited one of my local bald eagle nests. While the female sat on the nest, the male sat a couple hundred yards away in one of their favorite perches. He returned to the nest and a changing of the guard took place.
With him sitting on the eggs, the female came to the perch, giving me this beautiful flyby. The morning sun lit things up nicely and the wispy clouds made for a nice backdrop.
My best guess is that they started sitting on eggs on March 1 or a day or two after. Assuming that is the case, going 35 days from there (average incubation for bald eagles) would put ‘first hatch’ somewhere around April 5. Given this beautiful lady’s relatively young age, I am anxious to see if the pair will be successful.
