Each time I visit the nest, ‘Benjamin’ seems so much bigger than the last time. With all the leaves on the tree it is hard to get a good view but here are a couple.

One image shows him (or her) from behind while he was preening himself. The other shows him with Dad – and a TON of gnats / mosquitoes.

So why do I call the eaglet Benjamin? Well, I was struggling to come up with a unique name, something different than the obvious ones like ‘freedom,’ ‘America,’ etc.

My wife, being a bit of a smart aleck suggested ‘Benjamin’. She loved the irony of naming this majestic bird after the one Founding Father that very vocally expressed his dislike for Bald Eagles, Benjamin Franklin. I love the idea!

Take that, old Ben! 😉
