They have returned!

One of my favorite summertime visitors has returned after enjoying the warmer environs of Mexico and Texas for the winter. This pair is one I have photographed many times over the years as they occupy their nest on a stand in northern Colorado.

When I arrived Sunday, the male had just departed while the female kept watch on the nest. He returned a half hour later, with a clump of grass and dirt to help patch up the nest after a long winter absence. I look forward to visiting with them – and hopefully their offspring – in the coming months.
