Somewhat of a long shot but a nice environmental capture of a female northern harrier. She was on the hunt, seeking breakfast, soaring over the Great Plains. In the background, the beautiful Rocky Mountains, 25 miles or so away. The owl-like face that these hawks have serves a very important purpose. The stiff facial feathers direct sound to their ears allowing them to hear their prey providing them a unique and deadly advantage.
