Nearing home on Saturday after a less than stellar photo outing, I spotted two of these common raptors in an open space. Normally I wouldn’t bother with them but feeling like my images for the day were lacking, I gave it a shot.
One departed before I even approached but the second proved to be quite willing to be a photo subject. It gave me some nice poses and when it decided it was time to go, a very nice liftoff. This image gives you a good look at the hawk’s 4 foot wingspan, the red tail that it gets its name from and those deadly talons.
