Regal young Bald Eagles strike a pose for Freedom Friday

Young Bald Eagles may not be quite as impressive looking as adults but I think they still look pretty darned cool.

This pair of juveniles in Longmont, Colorado a couple of weeks ago seemed to be practicing the typical regal pose of an eagle for the day when they get their adult plumage. I like this image because it really helps show some of the stages of coloring Bald Eagles go through as they grow up.

The one of the left is a yearling, likely born last spring. The eagle on the right is between a year or two older. It has started to develop some yellow on the beak, its irises are lightening and it is starting to show some white on the head. The image also showcases both birds’ impressive talons.

Young or old, these raptors are just gorgeous.
