
A friend recently was lucky enough to get pics of one of these diminutive owls. That got me thinking about how it had been a couple years since I had seen one. Certainly, I will need to try to rectify that soon but, in the meantime, here is one for #ThrowbackThursday taken in January 2020.
This little one had a nice home in a hollowed out opening of a dead tree. As they often do on cold, calm mornings, it sat out in the relative open, soaking in the sun and taking a nap. While when zoomed in, it seems relatively obvious, a wider view would show just how small these guys are and how hard they are to spot, particularly when their colors help camouflage them against the trees.
