Bald Eagles prefer to be at a high point with unobstructed views of their surroundings. This allows them to keep watch on everything around and they feel safe doing this as they have no natural enemies.
This handsome fellow initially landed a few feet from the top of the tree but then decided he needed a better view. A short leap and a couple flaps of its wings later, it had the perch it preferred, a sequence that I captured here.
