The forest has eyes

Spotting great horned owls is a challenge but as the leaves have fallen off most of the trees, it gets easier this time of year. This was one smart owl though, choosing to roost in one of the few trees left with some foliage still clinging on. If it hadn’t turned its head causing some motion that got my attention, I probably would have walked right by it.

I love this capture as it shows how well camouflaged these guys can be and the leaves provide a nice frame around it. Throw in the yellow leaves that match those golden eyes and this is a cool one I think.
