I have said it before, kingbirds are jerks, and have posted photographic evidence of it before. I’ve seen these fearless birds take on hawks and even eagles.
Last weekend, this one chose to take on something at least a little closer to its size – a burrowing owl. The owl was simply flying around, trying to find bugs to feed its growing family. As its territory apparently overlaps the kingbirds’, disagreements are sure to happen.
Here, the owl took a break on a mullein plant which allowed the kingbird to make multiple divebomb runs at it.
