A fun encounter with this cool red-eyed raptor yesterday. It has returned to its nest area, I presume in anticipation of continuing its residency. It is starting off this season the same way it ended the last – by hassling the area great horned owls. The male owl made the mistake of moving and letting its location be known. The hawk sprung into action, taking multiple swipes at it then perching nearby and raising a ruckus. Here, it takes a break from the attack and gives me a little but if attention.
