Bald eagle mates cooperate, taking turns keeping watch, feeding and tending their offspring. Visiting my favorite nest this past weekend, the male was initially standing by the nest, keeping watch on the little one(s) inside. After a time, Mom arrived with a fish and took on feeding. With her there, the male was relieved of duty and headed off for a break.
This nest is now nine years old and gotten very, very big and deep, making it difficult to see the young until they get bigger. I only got a split-second view of something gray / brown moving in the nest. Hopefully on my next visit I will get a real look at the offspring and be able to find out how many are in there.
