U.S. Navy Blue Angels’ solos go head-to-head

We made a little road trip out to Grand Junction, Colorado for the air show they had this past weekend. In doing so, my camera was put to use photographing different kinds of birds than the feathered ones I usually capture. And, I guess technically, these ones were insects – F/A-18 Super Hornets to be exact.

Probably the most thrilling maneuvers America’s premier aerial demonstration squadron (GO NAVY!) performs are those put on by the two solo pilots. Oftentimes they approach each other head on at 800+ knots closure, coming extraordinarily close.

I was a little bit off show center so didn’t get the angle I wanted for some of these but still was happy with the results.
