Perhaps let’s call it Memorial Monday. On Memorial Day, Adams County, Colorado officially unveiled its new veterans memorial at Riverdale Regional Park and I finally was able to visit this past weekend.

The main feature of the memorial is a mockup of USS Colorado (BB-45), a battleship that served from 1923 to 1947. It certainly makes for an imposing feature and is pretty cool. There are also six individual monuments to each of the branches of service, their flags and some inspirational inscriptions. One nice touch are little medallions in the ground for each of the cities in the county that has their own memorials and the addresses for them.

If you are in the area, I would highly recommend visiting and while there, take time to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who have worn our nation’s uniforms.
