As the year comes to a close, I am creating some video slideshows of my ‘top shots’ covering a variety of subjects. Since it is Freedom Friday, I start with my favorite, the American Bald Eagle. I hope you enjoy it and check back in the coming days for other photo subjects. View full screen for the best effect!
Santa Eagle wants to know: Were you naughty or nice?
Judging by the look on his face, it may have been the former. 😉 No matter which it was, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas. May your new year be filled with joy, prosperity and lots of these cool creatures!
Bald Eagle pair keeping watch on air traffic
Who knew that an airport weather station could provide such a nice perch? 😉 I happened across this beautiful pair hanging out near Denver International Airport as they sat watching the planes land. Thankfully for them and holiday travelers, there are no weather-related concerns here for at least a few days. Christmas Day and the day after might be a different story though.
“I will squash you like a bug, little Magpie!”
“I will squash you like a bug, little Magpie!” 😀 This Bald Eagle didn’t really care too much for his roost-mate recently. A fun shot from a couple weeks ago at Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado.
Hope you all have a fantastic weekend – get out and see what you can find!
Bald Eagle makes an aggressive departure for Freedom Friday
Certainly I take tons of pics of these awesome birds but I am really liking this capture. Taken last month, this particular eagle has proven to be quite tolerant of my intrusions on its hunting grounds. It ignores me when I am around, simply keeping watch and waiting for an opportunity to grab a meal as if I wasn’t there.
On this day, it gave me tons of cool poses then became bored and decided it was time to seek out a new perch. As it departed, its massive wings grabbed at the air, sending it onward at breakneck speed. This shot, with its wings forward and lit by the morning sun, came out quite nice I think.
I have one more of my 2019 Bald Eagle calendars on hand and ready to ship immediately. Should I run out, I can always order more. Order one here.
Bald Eagle bows in remembrance of service and sacrifice
Following an emotional week that saw the nation lay to rest a former president, we end it with remembering one of the most significant events in our nation’s history.
President George H.W. Bush passed from this earth one week ago and our nation has been mourning the loss of a great American and honoring him since. Yesterday, he completed the journey and was interred in his final resting place in his beloved Texas.
Today, December 7th, is the 77th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, a devastating event that would forever change this nation and the world. 2,335 American servicemembers were killed in the cowardly attack and while it may have briefly brought us to our knees, the men and women of the Greatest Generation bravely stood tall and thwarted the threat to the world.
Today we remember our former president as well as all those who gave their lives on the date which will live in infamy. Fair winds and following seas, shipmates. May you rest in peace. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.
Lift ’em up!
A young Bald Eagle raises its wings and preps for launch. My favorite time of year is here as these gorgeous raptors continue to return for the season. I’ve been fortunately to capture some cool images of many of them here lately so you will likely be seeing many more pics of them to come.
Portrait of the national emblem for Freedom Friday
Just a stunning creature, aren’t they? This particular Bald Eagle has been hanging out in a rural area not too far from home and proven to be a very tolerant photo subject. Earlier this week, it sat, stoically observing its surroundings, unbothered by the photo guy. This gave me plenty of time to focus on getting a very nice shot that captures all the detail. Just awesome!
In honor of our nation’s heroes
Happy Veterans Day to all who have served.
Sam wants to know: Did you vote?
Abraham Lincoln said, “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.”
I truly hope you opt to exercise your civic duty as an American and cast your ballot today. Don’t turn your back just to be burned and then complain about it later. Make your voice heard!
