American Bison on the snow-covered Great Plains

‘Iconic’ would be an apt word to describe this capture from this past weekend. This massive Bison bull was grazing on top of a hill at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.

My son and I knew we had the potential for some pretty cool images when we came across the scene. The Bison spent most of its time with its head down grazing but we were patient and waited quite a while for it to pick up its head and turn toward us. Click.

An image I am pretty proud of that really captures the American West – the Bison, the snow, the grasses of the plains and of course the Rocky Mountains in the background. I do wish there wasn’t so much grass in front of its snout, unfortunately too much for me to try to clone out with Photoshop. Nevertheless, a pretty cool image if I do say so myself. 😉
