What started out as a potentially sad story ended up okay. Going up the west side of Trail Ridge Road soon after sunrise I see two figures running down the road toward me.  Dim lighting made me initially think they were coyotes but as they got closer I realized they were deer fawns.

I couldn’t figure out what they were doing alone and was quite concerned for them but then I realized… Mom had jumped the retaining wall (to the right in this picture) and the little ones couldn’t jump that high as it is about 4 to 5 feet tall in this spot.

I of course stopped and they ran toward me finding the end of the wall and then going up the side of the mountain where I saw mom waiting for them.
