Do Bald Eagles shiver?

Well, I don’t know if they do but this guy sure seemed to. 😉

You’ll see birds shake themselves sometimes as part of their preening routine. This male gave a particularly vigorous shake while perched next to his and his mate’s nest on Saturday. It is pretty fun to watch how much they puff up when they do it.

You may notice the unusual appearance of his eyes… . Bald Eagles (and many other birds) have an inner eyelid called a nictitating membrane. This membrane wipes front to back every few seconds, cleaning the cornea. It is translucent and the eagle can actually see through it.
