Bald Eagle works on spring home repairs

Anyone who owns a home knows there is always some sort of chore to be done. The same could be said for an eagle’s nest.

While Mom and her (presumed) eaglets were relaxing for the morning, Dad was a very busy guy last Saturday. First he fetched a rabbit to ensure he was family then he set about his chores. He flew to the opposite side of an adjacent lake and took a brief break.

Myself and another photographer were about to give up on waiting for him to return when he appeared, seemingly out of nowhere, headed right for us only about 15 feet off the ground. Hurriedly bringing my camera to my eye, I snapped off a nice sequence of him as he approached and flew right over us.

This is one of those images, taken just as he was passing overhead. In has talons, grass to add to the nest and help keep his family comfortable. It was a very fun thing to see and a bit comical as well as my fellow shutterbug and I rushed to get the capture.

Happy Freedom Friday, everyone! Taken in Jefferson County, Colorado.
