Ferruginous Hawk rearranges on its roost

This very handsome Ferruginous Hawk was in the process of turning itself around on the branch it was perched on and briefly spread its wings to keep its balance.

These hawks are absolutely gorgeous with their gray and brown coloring highlighted by the white of their chests and the underside of their wings.  This one was hanging out at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal and allowed me to grab a number of pictures as it surveyed the area.

Unfortunately I totally missed a picture perfect launch when it took off right over me and I was not prepared.  Frustrating!  😉
