Gear down, flaps extended as juvenile Bald Eagle comes in for a landing

A very determined young eagle prepares to touch down in a tree for our Freedom Friday picture.

Taken back in March at Cherry Creek State Park, Colorado, this juvenile showcases the cool plumage the young ones wear and provides a great look at their mean-looking talons.

As I watched it however, it also showed it had a thing or two to learn about choosing a landing perch.  That small branch wasn’t strong enough to provide a steady spot and the raptor spent almost five minutes trying desperately to get situated on the moving target.  It was actually pretty funny to watch.

You can view the entire sequence of pictures of this eagle as it tries to land here.
