Mama keeps watch in the wind and rain on Mother’s Day Eve

A mom’s job is never done and even when Mother Nature makes a mess, mom has to stay on the job. Despite the lousy weather here in Denver today I decided to check out a local Great Horned Owl nest.

Much to my delight I found the owlets had branched and were hopping about – I will share pics of them tomorrow. Mama Owl however didn’t seem too thrilled with her young ones’ newfound independence, especially given that we have had six days straight of rain and wind.

The owlets won’t be around for too much longer as they continue to test boundaries and eventually head out on their own. Mama will then be with an empty nest but hopefully she will be back again next year.
