Osprey flies by with its catch

Another springtime visitor that I am anxious to see soon, osprey. They should be here in another couple of weeks. This image harkens back to April 2021.

Snow was on the ground and it was cold and blustery. As I drove by a local open space, I spotted this gorgeous one circling over the water. I couldn’t get stopped in time to get the action of it catching the fish but it gave me a nice consolation prize of a beautiful flyby showing itself and its fishy meal off.

This image shows something pretty cool about the osprey – they have a reversible outer toe. This allows them to easily carry their catch parallel to their direction of flight helping to limit wind resistance.
