Red Tailed Hawk pays a visit to the neighborhood

Driving home yesterday I spotted a hawk in a tree overlooking a prairie dog town not far from my house. I figured it was one of the area Swainson’s Hawks that frequent the area although by now they should be heading south for the winter.

As it turns out, it was instead an adult Red Tailed Hawk – and a very noisy one at that. It was kind enough to give me a few nice flybys although harsh mid-afternoon lighting made for tough shooting conditions.
