Burrowing owls (finally) return to the Colorado plains

Better late than never! I usually see my first burrowing owls around the end of the first week / start of the second week of April. This year, I was striking out and getting concerned I wasn’t going to be able to photograph any of these cute, comical, seasonal visitors. Sunday, I finally found some.

This pair has scouted out themselves a beautiful spot on the plains with mountain views to the west and plenty of prairie dog burrows to pick from to take over for the summer. Here, one comes to inspect a candidate for their home. I am looking forward to seeing them again.
