As is the norm, I took Veterans Day off – I refuse to work on “my” holiday. It started with a walk along the South Platte River not far from my house where I ran into this handsome fellow and his mate.

I always insist my family does something appropriate for this day. Among other things, we went and saw Hacksaw Ridge, probably one of the best movies I have ever seen. Honestly, I am still trying to process it.

It is hard to imagine someone having such strength of conviction, such devotion to our God, to have such a desire to serve and such love for his fellow man to accomplish what Desmond Doss did. Absolutely humbling. That strength, devotion, desire and love is something we should all aspire to.

Thank you to all my fellow veterans for your service. I am proud to call you ‘shipmate!’
