A chance encounter with this common raptor. Driving by some private property that had some piles of dirt, I spotted it as it sat on the ground, surveying the area. Red tails usually prefer to watch from on high, so I found that interesting and turned around. Once I got situated to take pics, it decided it was time to leave, giving me this nice shot with its wings high and showcasing its cool plumage.
