One of those times when making a mistake pays off and an example of why I take my camera with me everywhere I go.

I had ordered take and bake pizza for dinner and inadvertently picked the wrong store, requiring me to go five miles further than what I should have had to go. Well, that was actually a good thing. As I made my way to my waiting pizza, I happened across a little, private pond that was starting to thaw and had drawn the attention of some bald eagles.

The fish in the pond had suffered a bit of a die off and were starting to emerge from the ice. Gulls and crows were picking the fish out of the slush and when they did, the eagles would swoop down and steal an easy meal. Clearly my own dinner could wait! 😉

I spent over an hour photographing the eagles as they patrolled the pond and occasionally snagged something to eat. This was my favorite shot of over 1,500 I shot. Way cool and fun and I was certainly glad to have my camera with me.
