No, it wasn’t really angry but he did give me a serious look last month and after a frustrating day at work today, this reflects how I feel. 😉
Double divers
This almost looks like one image that was mirrored in half. In is however two separate American White #Pelicans that were facing opposite directions and happened to stick their heads under water fishing at the same moment. The pair was part of a larger pod of nine that had gathered to fish a small pond in Thornton, Colorado recently.
Great Horned Owl takes flight
With their little ones fledged and moving out into the big world on their own, my local pair of Great Horned Owls has become much more accessible.
I recently spent a good bit of time with the male and female, each providing some great photo opportunities. In this series of images, the female starts happily perched and keeping watch on her fledglings a few trees away.
She however chose to be pretty visible resulting in blackbirds hassling her. Wisely, she decides to move to a new, more sheltered spot and I was able to grab some great images as she launched into the air. Notice the red-stained feet – she clearly had recently eaten.

Rocky Mountain Airshow performs amaze
Mirror, mirror
I know these aren’t the typical kind of birds I post pictures of but they are the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds? after all. Taken today at the The Rocky Mountain Airshow? here near Denver.
Here, the two solo birds come together, one inverted. You’ll have to indulge me for sharing some of these images in the coming days.
I was in the Navy and worked on jets during my time in the service so aviation is something that has always been of great interest to me. Granted, I am partial to the U.S. Navy Blue Angels? but since neither team has been to the area in so long, I was ecstatic to get a chance to see one of them again. ?
Mama keeping her eggs warm
This female Swainson’s Hawk was hunkered down in her nest north of Denver International Airport yesterday. Presumably she has a clutch of eggs underneath her. Dad wasn’t around so he was probably out hunting. ?
Oily owl
I was pretty surprised to find this Great Horned Owl sitting on an oil pumpjack today. It was perfectly content out in the open keeping watch on the open plains. Perhaps it was staking claim to the resources? 😉 ?
Look into my eyes and tell me what you see!
A Burrowing Owl’s bright yellow eyes burn into the camera as it keeps close watch. This guy was perfectly content to watch me from about 15 feet away as I sat in my truck. Still no sign of mama or the little ones but they should be emerging from the burrows very soon. Taken in Adams County, Colorado, USA.
U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds practice for Denver airshow
After work I raced out east of Denver where there is a major airshow this weekend in hopes of catching the Air Force Thunderbirds practice. Found a great spot to watch other than the fact the performance smoke was blowing right at me making for a good bit of haze.
Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun to watch. After I got out of the #Navy, the last thing I wanted to do was see more planes. Now that time has passed, I finally can once again appreciate these amazing machines and the extraordinary people that fly and maintain them. I do kind of wish this was the Blue Angels though. 😉
Friday Funny: Bald Eagle has a good laugh
A laughing Bald Eagle? Nah, not really. It in fact was yawning but taking a single image of the action does make it appear like he was having a good laugh. Sometimes these amazing raptors are very animated and such was the case of this guy. For more than two hours he posed for me giving every look imaginable. Definitely a treat for the photographer.
